Symmetry

So, I'm a crappy blogger. Sue me. It's spring, and I've been gardening.

Anyway, this morning, I have just spent a half hour reconciling my spread sheet showing how I spend every damned dime with my bank account. The bank showed I had five dollars the spread sheet didn't seem to think I had. Now, this is a big problem when you're as anal as I am about our spending habits.

I don't do coupons all the time. I don't sales shop. I don't care if we eat out or how we spend the $$$, but I want to know where it went. And I want accurate records.

Writers are supposed to be good with words. Words are wonderful. I spend a good deal of my time playing with them. Words have sound and color, movement and breadth, and best of all, emotion.

What numbers have that words don't is symmetry. My bank account balance and my monthly spread sheet should balance. I check them both every morning. They should match. Today, when they didn't, one of them had to be fixed. Since THE BANK spends all its time making sure my debits and credits happen, not gardening, writing, cooking, hanging out with friends and family, they get to be right, as a rule.

By now, you're either asleep, onto another blog, or wondering exactly where my five dollars came from and if I really have it to spend. It turns out I spent $23 for gas rather than the $28 I thought I had... Bingo, the numbers match. Once again, I am at peace, at least about my bank balance. Life is good again.

Happy Friday.

  1. LOLOL! I don't care, as long as there's enough to feed us and pay the bills. I just care that I recognize every charge made. *grin*
